This
Saturday the WINMAU World Masters Scottish qualifiers take place at Bannockburn
Social Club. Representing Fife in the men’s event will be Stewart Rattray,
Gordon Donnelly, Mark Thomson, Neil Brunton, Kevin Feeley, Andy Scott, and newcomers
to the Fife County squad this season, Mark Kilpatrick and Andrew McDougall.
Competing in the women’s final will be Brenda Hunter, Margaret Finlayson,
Margaret Hatton and Pearl Scott. The Fife committee wish all players the best
of luck and hopefully some of them can go on to play in the international
finals in September at Bridlington.
On
Sunday, Cowdenbeath’s Super League winning team will be travelling to Falkirk
to play in the Scottish qualifier for the Champions Cup, which will be held in
Pennies Bar. Should the Cowden boys win the qualifier, they then go forward to
the British finals which will take place in Daventry on 16th of
August. Best wishes go with them.
Last
Friday night in the CISWO, week six of their Summer Open Tournament was held.
The two players joining Keith Slocombe and Alan McKerrow, who qualified from
the previous week, were Steve Fairfull (Glenrothes) who beat Davie Wright in
the deciding leg, and Davie Stein lost out in the board final for the second
week running, this time to Paul Coughlin (Dundee).
There are
now just two weeks left to try and stake your place at finals night and
competition will be hotting up as there are now only four places available. The
tournament starts at 8.00pm on a Friday night and entry fee is only £1.00.
Last
Saturday the Craigie Bar, Ballingry, held the Rab Donnelly Memorial Challenge Tournament.
Although not all teams who were invited came along on the day, there was a good
turn out. Due to a lower than expected entry, the organisers decided to change
the format to a 4-person team event. The semi-finalists were the Craigie Bar’s
A team, Old Cross Guns, Junction Bar, and the Central Bar, with the Craigie and
the Cross Guns contesting the final which was won by the visitors from
Cowdenbeath by three legs to one. The presentation of the cup was made by Cathy
Donnelly to the winners and grandson Brendyn presented Cathy with a bouquet of
flowers. After the main tournament, a blind draw pairs was held and the winners
were Raymond Gardiner and Christine who beat Susan O’Brien and Mike Garrett in
the final.
The organisers would like to thank all who came along on the day to take part as well as Podge for the venue for the day, the ladies from the café for keeping open on the day and supplying the food and to Gavin Patrick for an excellent show. It is hoped to make this an annual event and the organisers would like to say that all those who took part this year that they will be the first ones invited back next year.
