This Thursday the second round of matches in
the men’s Super League fixtures take place. Lochgelly B have the bye, while
Lochgelly A visit Dunfermline A at Jokers Bar. Top of the table team
Cowdenbeath travel to Methil to play East Fife at the Brig Tavern and
completing the round is the tie between Glenrothes and Dunfermline B in the
CISWO.
Last week’s results in the women’s Super
League saw Shardys win quite comprehensively with a 5-0 thrashing of the
Railway Tavern to see them move to the top of the table. Dunfermline Ladies played
their first match of the season which resulted in a home defeat against the
Royal Tavern by three sets to two, while the Clansman (Leslie) went down by the
same score line to Kennoway Bowling Club. The best average from the matches in
this round came from Brenda Hunter (Shardys) who won her game 3-0 with an
average of 20.88.
This Saturday the Scottish finals of the
men’s and women’s doubles will be held at Bannockburn Social Club. Fife held
their qualifier last Saturday in the CISWO and Lochgelly players made up three
pairs in the board finals. In the first final it was the Craigie Bar vs Shardys
with semi-finalists from the Scottish finals last season, Gordon Donnelly and
Alan Small, meeting Paddy Reilly and Stuart McGaulley. The match went to the
deciding fifth leg with Stuart hitting the winning double to win the match for
the Shardys players. In the other final, the Craigie Bar had two
representatives from their team with James Scougall and Kevin Feeley lined up
to face Ian Cochrane and Stewart Rattray from Cowdenbeath. Although the
Lochgelly pair had put out some good doubles in the previous rounds, their
challenge ended here as Stewart and Ian proved to be too strong for them
winning the match three legs to nil.
In the women’s qualifier, there was only one
place up for grabs and the semi-finals saw June Innes and Margaret Hatton win
through to the final with a 3-1 win against Susan McRae and Frances Wood, while
Brenda Hunter and Agnes Gallagher made it through with a similar win against
their opponents Pearl Scott and Steph Gilmour. In the final match of the day,
Brenda and Agnes strolled through to victory without the loss of a leg to stake
their place and join Paddy & Stuart and Ian & Stewart at the Scottish
finals this weekend.
This Sunday the Scottish finals of the John
Smith’s Peoples Darts Tournament take place at Blantyre Social Club. Two
players representing local teams will be participating on the day following
their success in regional play-off’s; Raymond Gardiner (Junction Bar) and
Graeme Gunn (East Fife). If any of the two are lucky enough to win on the day
their next step will be a trip to the Lakeside Country Club when the World
Championship finals are on. Best of luck goes to both players.
