BOBBY’S WEEKLY REPORT 24th
NOVEMBER 2008
This
Saturday Fife’s Inter County darts teams will be in action for the second time
this month when they play hosts to Grampian at the CISWO, Glenrothes. The first
match of the day will be the ladies B, who are unbeaten from their previous two
outings so far, and they will toe the oche at approximately 10.30am. All
players are reminded to inform their team managers of their availability for
selection and all players should be in the venue by 10.00am. Anyone wishing to
come along to support should note that entry to the venue is by programme at
the door which costs £2.00.
Last
Thursday’s men’s Super League results saw Lochgelly record an excellent 6-2 win
over last season’s champions, Earn Valley. There were a few ton-plus checkouts
during the game with Kevin Feeley’s 160 being the highlight. Danny Currie
checked out 130 on the bull; Paddy Reilly checked 111; Earn Valley’s Colin
Hepplewhite managed 104; and Colin Feeley checked 101 in his game. Top winning
averages were 24.05 by Colin Feeley and James Scougall for the home side, and
25.47 by Neil Brunton for Earn Valley.
In
the other games Cowdenbeath came through a closely contested match where every
set went to five legs to narrowly win 5-3 against Glenrothes B. Glenrothes A
also won with a 6-2 win on the road against Dunfermline. These results mean
Cowdenbeath still lead the way on 22 points with Lochgelly 3 points behind
them. Glenrothes A are 2 points further behind in third and it’s Earn Valley on
9, but with a game in hand, Dunfermline on 8 and Glenrothes B on 5, also with a
game in hand.
The
last round of women’s fixtures saw Shardys win 3-2 against the defending
champions from the CSIWO, East Neuk won 4-1 against the Bowhill Railway Tavern
B team, and the Tavern’s A team won 3-2 against the Station Hotel, Thornton.
Shardys now top the table on 11 points with a 3 point gap between them and the
CISWO. The Station Thornton and East Neuk both have 7, while in fifth and sixth
are the BRT A and BRT B on 6 and 3 points respectively.
Last
Saturday in the CISWO, Fife Darts held their qualifier for the Scottish Mixed
Triples. The first board final was contested between Susan O’Brien select
(Susan, Kevin Feeley and Colin Feeley) versus June Innes select (June, Stewart
Rattray and Rab Shaw). Despite being up against the hotly tipped favourites,
the Ballingry and Bowhill trio won 3-0 after Susan checked out to win the
triple; Kevin and Susan beat Rab and June in the double; and Kevin held his
nerve to beat Stewart in the first single to stake their place at the national
finals. The next final was between Diane Fyfe select (Diane, Craig Mayne and
Stuart McGaulley) versus Susan McRae select (Susan, Steve Fairfull and John
Carrett). The first four legs all went with the darts and the match went to the
deciding fifth leg with John Carrett emerging the winner to put Susan’s team
through. The last final was Alison Duncan’s select (Alison, Davie Anderson and
Colin McClements) against Pearl Scott select (Pearl, Neil Brunton and Raymond
Gardiner). As with the previous match, this tie would be decided on the fifth
leg as the first four were shared, and it was Neil Brunton who beat Colin
McClements to qualify. All three winners will now represent Fife at the
Scottish finals at Bannockburn on 13th December.
Following
the triples a blind draw pairs was held and this was won by Gordon Donnelly and
Paul Whyte, who beat Rab Shaw and Craig Robertson in the final.
