Information
Lochgelly & District Darts Association has just ended it's 55th season, having been founded in 1948,
following the end of the war. There was a league in Lochgelly, which was started by the A.R.P.
in 1941 with teams from Lochgelly, Glencraig, Lochore and Cowdenbeath competing in it.
Tam Faulds has been our longest serving member of the committee, having held the position of
Treasurer for some 27 years now. On our League Finals Day in 2001 he was presented with a silver
salver, which takes pride of place in his home, to acknowledge 25 years service to the League.
Lochgelly's League committee has gone on to provide the Fife Inter-County Darts team with some
top players in the past, and present, and has also provided 5 County team managers; Tam Frost,
Tam Taylor, John Cook (who is also the current Scotland team manager), Willie Glen, and currently
Bobby Adamson.
Both Andy Kilgour and Willie Paterson share the record for winning the League Singles title for the
most consecutive years - which is 3. Willie has won the Singles title the most, on 6 occasions now,
and Andy has won it 5 times - his latest win coming only last year.
This year's Final's Day, which was held in the Minto Social Club, saw history being made as Brenda
Hunter became the first lady player in the league to play on stage in a final. Also, with Gordon Donnelly
winning the Singles, we had the first father and son duo to have done so. Gordon's father Rab won the
Singles in season 1966 - '67.
For any pub/club wishing to start a team up for the forthcoming season, the Association's Annual
General Meeting will be held in the Minto Social Club on Wednesday 20th August, and starts
from 7.30pm.
Bobby Adamson.
